FISHERIES & WATER QUALITY Research

October 2023 Update: We Have a Winner in the Reddington Fly Rod Drawing! See Below.

We are doing research into the health of the Pierce Pond watershed’s fisheries, beginning with why Mayfly hatches seem to have declined. Pierce Pond Watershed Trust (PPWT) is working with Cobb's Camps and Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife (ME IF&W) to gather information about the Pond to create a baseline of information to study.

Angler Logs (2023 Season)

Citizen Scientists Earn a Chance to Win a Reddington Fly Rod!
2023-Season anglers were asked to stop by Cobb’s Camps and pick up Anglers Logs to complete and submit. The log tracked what kind of fish were caught, and where, when, and how they were caught. It also asked anglers to note any insect hatches. For every log submitted, the angler’s name was entered in a drawing for a 9' 1/2",  six-weight Redington fly rod.

Redington Fly Rod Winner Drawn

We held the drawing for the Reddington Fly Rod and the winner is . . .

Bob McLaughlin!

Congratulations to Bob, who filled out several Anglers Logs that will be given to IFW for analysis. A big thank-you goes out to all seventy-six people who completed logs this year! Next season we plan to have a raffle for a complete fly rod outfit for those who complete a log.

Telemetry Study (2024 Season)

Next spring, we plan to partner with ME IF&W to perform a radio telemetry study on brook trout migration in Pierce Pond, which will provide valuable information regarding movements of fish during the year, including the warm summer months and the fall spawning period.

Water-Quality Monitoring (WQM) Program (2024 Season)

Next spring, we plan to begin a WQM program with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (ME DEP), to give us baseline water-quality information. ME DEP can perform WQM work in the watershed at no cost during the five month open-water season.
